International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 148 will host its 30th annual Charity Bass Tournament at Public Beach Area #2 at the Lake of the Ozarks on September 9th. For 29 years, a group of dedicated and energized Local 148 volunteers, both active and retired members, have donated a weekend of their time to raise money for charities dedicated to battling childhood diseases. Since its inception at Sterett Creek on Truman Lake in 1988, this one-of-a-kind tournament has raised over $1.7 million for Cystic Fibrosis research, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, and now the Ronald McDonald House of St. Louis.
The Ronald McDonald House of St. Louis provides a home-away-from-home for families of seriously ill children, and support to organizations that serve the needs of children. St. Louis’s three Ronald McDonald Houses offer parents and family members a respite from hospital waiting rooms 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Their houses provide the essential comforts of home.
Last year’s Bass Tournament raised $28,000 to the Ronald McDonald House. Local 148’s goal on the 30th annual tournament is to raise $30,000! This $30,000 donation will go to build a new playground at one of the Ronald McDonald houses. This playground will bring joy to seriously ill children and their siblings, providing them with a little oasis during a very difficult time in their life.
This tournament is designed to allow your everyday non-tourney fishermen the opportunity to have a fun day of fishing along with helping a great cause. Because of the desire to provide as many of the proceeds possible to charity, the top prize of for the winning boat stringer is $1000. However, there is a 10% total payout of prize money; last year’s tourney saw ten boats receive monies.
In addition, there are three places paid for Big Bass and there is also a payout for a “Guys & Gals” winning stringer. One lucky fisherman will also win the grand attendance prize with the minimum value of $2,500; each registered entrant’s name will be included in the grand prize drawing and must be in attendance to win. Last year’s winner received a check for $2,500.
Entry fee is $75 ($150 per two person boat). During Friday evening’s pre-tourney check-in, there is a bratwurst dinner with beer, soda, and chips. Following the weigh-in on Saturday afternoon, there is a pork steak dinner with beer and soda, and drawings for numerous attendance prizes. The fisherman will also have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction, live auction, and gun raffle to provide additional donations to the Ronald McDonald House. Please join us for a worth cause!
The Tournament location is the Marina at Public Beach Area #2 and the tournament will kickoff with registration/check-in at 3pm on Friday, September 8th at the Marina. We will start serving brats, beer, soda and chips at 5pm followed by a presentation regarding the lake fishing conditions by local guides at 630pm.
We will send boats off from the Marina at Public Beach Area#2 starting at approximately at 630am on Saturday the 9th (subject to local lake patrol approval). First flight is due in at 3pm with the weigh-in and pork steak dinner to follow. Reminder that wristbands are required for food and beverages.
