The Operating Engineers, Local 148 Scholarship Committee is now accepting applications for the 2023 Scholarship Program.  A $1,000 scholarship shall be awarded as first prize, and a $500 scholarship awarded as second prize.  The deadline for receiving the essays in connection with the Scholarship Awards is Friday, March 10^th.  All essays MUST be POST MARKED ON OR BEFORE March 10^th, 2023 to qualify for consideration.

ELIGIBILITY:

Eligibility is limited to full or part-time High School Seniors who are IRS-defined dependent children of a Local Union 148 active and/or retired member in good standing as of January 1, 2023 and who retain eligibility through the March 10^th 2023 deadline.

The dependents of the constitutional officers, as outlined in Article XXIV, Subdivision 1, Section (a), Paragraph 1 of the International Constitution, and employees of Local Union 148 shall not be eligible for the scholarship.

TOPIC:

Topic for the scholarship will be “What Unions Mean To Me”.  Specific reference must be made as to how unions have affected the applicant or his or her family directly.

Applicants shall submit an essay between 500 and 1,000 words, typed double-spaced, with an original (with coversheet providing name/address/telephone number) and one (1) copy without a cover sheet, forwarded to the Local Union Office.  – Essays will be judged on content, clarity and grammar.

All copies must be legible

The applicant’s name should NOT be placed on the copies

Any essays that are not post marked on or before March 10^th, 2023 will not be considered.
